Vodafone live! is
the largest global services launch Vodafone has undertaken.
Launched simultaneously across a number of European markets on 25
October 2002, the multi-media, web-based service brings sound,
pictures and colour to mobile.
NextWindow's large
touch screens allow Vodafone to:
- direct customers to
current promotions
- monitor and respond to
customers in a more targeted way
- update key messages
cost-effectively without making significant software
changes
- adapt touch screens easily
for future campaigns
Engaging the Customer with Interactive Kiosks
In the United Kingdom, Vodafone deployed 350 interactive kiosks at
retail outlets which simulated the Vodafone live! phone experience
including games, email, news and webcam pictures. The kiosks
proved an invaluable sales tool, giving customers the opportunity
to research products and allowing sales staff to demonstrate the
capabilities of the service.
Inspired by these successful interactive kiosks, Vodafone New
Zealand looked to use kiosk technology in the local launch of
Vodafone live! Vodafone New Zealand selected NextWindow, a New
Zealand-based designer of world-class optical imaging technology,
to develop and implement interactive Touch Screens to promote
Vodafone live! in stores across New Zealand. The project was
completed within a two month timeframe. Over half of the 122
kiosks are interactive and the remaining static kiosks will be
upgraded over time.
Larger Touch Screens Take Technology Further
According to Vodafone New Zealand's retail channel manager,
Neville Pulman, the NextWindow optical imaging technology had several major
advantages over other solutions. "The NextWindow Touch
Screens provided flexibility and future proofing, taking the UK
solution several steps further by utilising two separate
touch-enabled zones. In addition to the touch-enabled 18" LCD
screen, NextWindow had the ability to touch-enable the entire
27" surround panel as well," he says.
"This gives us the ability to direct customers to promotions
such as sale handsets or new games, using the shortcuts provided
on the touch-enabled surround panel. We have the flexibility to
update the key messages easily and cost-effectively without having
to reinvent the kiosk or make significant software changes. In
this way NextWindow's solution can be easily adapted for future
campaigns," says Pulman.
